The plunger is the simplest and yet often the most effective tool in a plumber’s arsenal. There are different plungers for the sink and the toilet. The aim is to cover the waste opening completely and then, by simply pumping the plunger steadily up and down, you’ll create a vacuum in the pipe.
This causes an imbalance in the pressure inside the pipe, effectively forcing any clog apart and allowing the drain to do its job again. They are simple yet very effective.

A drain auger is another excellent way to remove a clog. You simply feed the auger into the pipe. It is flexible and thin enough to snake around the bends in the tubes until it reaches any clog. Alongside the basin wrench, you’ll need standard wrenches and water pliers. These are perfect for putting joints together and taking them apart. Of course, it doesn’t work if you wish to solder the joint. But, if using any compression style joints you’ll be glad you have a decent set of wrenches and pliers to hand.
